the wheel goes spinny spinny... the wheel that decides our fate...
The Great Wheel Says:
the next book is I'm in Love with Mothman by Paige Lavoie!
22-year-old Heather is suffering from an epic case of burnout.
So, just like any other young influencer, she
abandons her social platforms. Check!
gathers up her best flowy dresses. Check!
and moves to a desolate cabin. Check!
Heather imagines spending her #unplugged days traipsing through the woods and tending to her garden. However, her cottagecore fantasy is turned upside down when a wounded cryptid crashes into her roofβand her heart.
With no help from her internet followers, and the local monster-hunter growing suspicious, Heatherβs quiet life in the wilderness has suddenly become a little more complicated. To make matters worse, she thinks she might be falling in love with the brooding winged man in her living room.
tag is #bats reads ilwmm. i thought long and hard about that second m but ultimately it just didn't sound right without it lol

had a mental breakdown but i'm good now β time to go read cryptid smut
5/21/24 1:41pm
going into this i'm realizing i only have 1 cryptid-themed bookmark. i'm somebody who's really big on matching my bookmarks to my books, so this Bothers Me.
also, the bookmark in question is one of those nessie bookmarks that hangs out, so it looks like the loch ness monster is poking out of your book, and it's really cute but also top-heavy, which means it fall out pretty easily. so it doesn't really work as well as a bookmark.
also using a nessie bookmark for a mothman book just... feels wrong lol. but i will manage.

feeling some complicated emotions about this one. like on one hand i'm not really vibing with the woe-is-me, being an influencer is so hard shtick. but on the other hand these are valid problems and i do feel bad for her. also she's the child of a mommy blogger and Oh God, i'm so sorry. but also like... she has the money to just quit. she just buys a cabin like it's nothing. she abandons her career like it's nothing.

wait a minute if this a mothman book why is she in ohio? isn't mothman a west virginia fella?
5/21/24 2:19pm
we have queer people π
5/21/24 2:47pm
it needs to be june already so i can justify a bookmark buy because poor nessie is fightin for her life out here
5/25/24 2:45pm
wait wait wait. okay. if you had a blanket that was too short and needed a secondary item to get optimal body coverage, why would you put the secondary item over the feet???? why would you not have it up top????

i have to be reading this wrong, there's no way she did it like that

booo let him be a monster booo if you're just gonna make him look like some vaguely freaky guy why bother
5/26/24 11:23pm
"You are hurt."
If I didn't know better, I'd think he's poised to go after my attacker - which would be awkward considering it was, you know, him. His red eyes turn from ruby to deep crimson as he considers the scratch marks.
"Who did this?" The guttural tone he emits is low and dangerous. I wonder if he can feel the goosebumps forming on my skin under his fingertips
maybe i'm dumb but i can't tell if the author really wanted a "who did this to you" scene and felt that this was the best way to shoehorn one in or if they're making fun of "who did this to you" scenes lol
5/26/24 11:38pm
the author is unfortunately not great at naming social media handles. like, why are there so many anon[set of numbers] handles? like no one does that lol. not even bots these days
5/26/24 11:52pm
asafsdfdf;l he's eating the tablecloth lmfao

Reading Mean Instagram Comments With Mothman
5/27/24 1:34am
okay look. i'm not an influencer. i don't use social media much outside of tumblr. so maybe my opinion on this is biased. but if some dude just crushed my phone without asking it'd be on sight, i don't care how hot he is
5/27/24 1:37am
i don't really buy that these two are in love tbh, i think they're both just really horny
5/30/24 6:36pm
good news: it took me so long to finish this book that i was able to order and receive some cryptid bookmarks before it was done, meaning i am no longer bound to flimsy nessie
bad news: i'm having a major depressive episode and cannot fathom trying to read at the moment
it's not even the book's fault that it's taking so long. the book is generally fine. shit just keeps happening
5/31/24 2:25pm
he's giving her them asmr tingles
5/31/24 3:09pm
breaking news: mothman is bisexual
5/31/24 3:15pm
hell yeah get her ass heather!!! it's always fun to see a character go off on their shitty parent
5/31/24 3:19pm
kill him.
5/31/24 3:21pm
let him kill them!!!!
5/31/24 3:23pm
what a pointless stupid argument
5/31/24 3:39pm
adafsgsd WHAT
we're just gonna drop that twist and move on huh
5/31/24 3:50pm
she has become moth woman!!! somehow. i didn't realize you could just turn people into moths lol
5/31/24 3:56pm
look. i don't really like cops or jail or anything. but i do think chris should have faced some kind of consequence for literally kidnapping and killing heather, even if she did survive by becoming a moth woman
5/31/24 4:07pm
okay so. overall it was alright. i liked most of it. i'm not sure i really vibe with the moth woman ending, at least not for book 1. especially since the way she's described it sounds like she mostly just has the wings and otherwise looks normal enough to be around people without issue? like she goes to the doctor & hangs out with her mom and it's fine. so like not even the level of weird of moth's human form.
idk i feel like in interspecies monsterfucker romances part of what makes them interesting is the ~ooo they're so different but they love each other anyway~ shtick so like The Change where the human becomes a monster too is like, a culmination, there's a finality to it. it just changes the dynamic so much, y'know? so dropping it at the end of book 1 in a 3 book series feels like jumping the gun a bit.
idk if i'll read the next 2. we'll see.
