i wasn't expecting both my holds to come in at the same time π
so plans are changing a bit
next book is Devour by Kurt Anderson!
IT LURKS
Deep beneath the ice of the Arctic Circle, something has awakened. A primordial creature frozen in time, it is the oldest, largest, most efficient predator that nature has ever produced. And it is ravenously hungryβ¦
IT HUNTS
Thirty-five miles off the Massachussetts coast, a small research ship is attacked. All but one of its crew is killed by the massive serpentine horror that rises from the sea. The creature likes this human prey. The chewy outer hide. The tender saltiness within. And it wants moreβ¦
IT FEEDS
Responding to a distress signal, fishing-boat captain Brian Hawkins arrives in time to save the shipβs last survivor. But the nightmare is just beginning. A casino cruise ship carrying high-stakes passengersβand a top-secret cargoβbecomes the creatureβs bloodsoaked hunting ground. Desperate but determined, Hawkins goes after the biggest catch of the century.
tag is "bats reads devour"
i prommy i will pick a different genre for the book after the book after this one. these 2 loans are from libraries i don't normally go to so i wanna get them done sooner rather than later. as i mentioned in an earlier post i'm thinking about doing a poll if i can figure out how polls work, i gotta think about what to put on it tho

the prologue was alright. idk if it handled the inuit stuff suuuper well but it was a solid opening monster scene. maybe ran a bit long though?

you know i'd heard that was an ableist term but i'd never seen it used as one until now
3/14/24 1:21pm
so wait- coasties is an actual term for the coast guard, and not some shit natural selection made up???
learn something new every day lol
3/14/24 2:13pm
OOF more ableism. getting the r-slur now, how fun π
3/14/24 3:18pm
and gay jokes. π
look I'm gonna be honest, some hardcore Fish Violence needs to happen soon, otherwise i'm gonna have to dnf this one. like at least with natural selection i kinda liked some of the characters and i kinda liked what was going on with the plot (at least until it became clear it was just gonna drag on forever in exposition land), but i'm barely 50 pages in and i hate everyone

correctly me if i'm wrong but you're reeeally not supposed to do that? like if you get stabbed, foot or otherwise, you're supposed to leave it in until you get to a doc, right? cause you bleed out faster if the knife ain't plugging up the wound? every bit of random first-aid advice has been pretty adamant about not removing things from stab wounds if you've got a choice in the matter

okay wait wait wait. lemme get this straight. it's heavily implied that the monster stole the big fish Brian was trying to catch. so the monster, that has already figured out how to attack boats because it loves to eat people, just grabs the fish & leaves to go after another boat, instead of attacking this boat too?
i think this is the last straw y'all lol i have better things to do than waste my time with a book that just keeps getting worse again
